This is the time of year when we wind down the old year and gear up for the new. This year, however, anticipating
what 2017 will bring, in terms of food safety regulations and
their implementation, appears to be anyone’s guess, with a new
administration keen on little government oversight.
My hope is that all of the arduous work
by stakeholders across the food supply chain,
from primary producers and processors,
distributors and retailers to regulators and end-users (not to mention all the associations and
trade groups), will not have been for naught.
One thing is certain, however: Food safety is not something to
be trifled with. Cutting corners in sanitation, testing or food
safety management can have dire consequences, risking the very
