Happy anniversary, Food Safety Magazine Twenty years ago, Food Testing & Analysis, which later became Food Safety
Magazine, came into existence with the August/September
issue and has heralded many of the significant advances of the
food industry to date. To help us tell the story not only of the
evolution of our magazine but also of the food
industry, we tapped Mr. Tom Sauer, who was
there with us from day 1, to highlight our past
20 years. Please see “FSM: Twenty Years and
Counting” for Tom’s insightful thoughts.
How have the changes in food safety over
the past 20 years affected you in your daily
work? Have they presented unique challenges? Driven innovative
advances? Kept you up at night? I want to know. Send your
thoughts and perspectives to me at barbara@foodsafetymagazine.
com; I’ll highlight your responses over the next several issues.
While I personally have been a part of this industry only
since 2008, I’m passionate about getting food safety messaging
out, especially to those on the edges: small growers, restaurants
and suppliers…but the challenges are great. We’ve made many
inroads using social media and our archived online content. We
continue to research and report on timely food safety topics, but
we need to do more. We all must do more.
Who do you think needs to hear more about food safety?
Can we help you reach your suppliers? Can we cover topics that
would help you mentor those in your own supply chain? Can
we help you with training? While we’re developing networking
opportunities to meet these challenges, we invite you to join
us in spreading food safety information: forward our content,
retweet our news, send us feedback, let us know how we can help
you do your job better. We are your science-based resource for
food safety and quality. We’ve served the food industry in this
capacity for the past 20 years. That industry is now at a pivotal
point, with increased attention from consumers and government
presenting greater demands—and opportunities. We look forward
to another 20 years of helping drive this industry to provide
scientific solutions that meet the demands and expand the
opportunities of a global market.
